No more Apple Steve-notes
Apple have announced they are to withdraw from the Macworld Expo. It is the end of an era for all of us who enjoyed the excitement of watching a auto-refreshing page delivering the details of the new range of Mac products. It was a true fan-boy diary highlight, but Apple claim they now have a much bigger presence generally, and that they are able to reach millions through their Apple Stores and Website.
They have also said that Jobs will not be giving this years Keynote, fuelling yet more speculation about his health. This was refuted by many, but it seems kind of funny that there won't be one final Jobs Keynote to say goodbye to MacWorld. Anyway, enough idle speculation, industry experts aren't in the least surprised that this has happened as Apple have been scaling back their MacWorld presence for years.
Philip Schiller will give the final Apple Keynote at Macworld.

April Fools 2008
There seems to have been a good batch of jokes this year.
Personally, I'm off to Mars with Larry and Sergey...
Virgle - Go to mars with Virgin and Google
Also from google.au - search the future!
The Web Standards Project - tag your friends.
This from Youtube - which actually just seems like a good idea!
Think Geek's 1st April offerings
..and finally, the Wonderful BBC flying penguins - who were on the main BBC news over here in the UK, my father actually took quite a lot of convincing that it wasn't real!
Let us know in the comments if you forgot it was April 1st and read in horror at the thought of being charged for Codeigniter, or were dissappointed that you couldn't buy that USB flame-thrower from ThinkGeek - or if you played any pranks yourself.

iPhone SDK - here at last
The iPhone SDK is here at long last and already apps are beginning to appear for the platform.
Some developers have mixed feelings about the offering from Apple - a lack of development environment for Windows and Linux users give a huge leg-up to Mac developers already well versed in XCode and Interface Builder.
MacWorld Article
Jobs wants you to pay him $99 for the privilege of having your app distributed, and also will take 30% of your price for any commercial app you come up with for...ahem...admin and distribution costs. Yeah right.
But that side, you can download the SDK for nothing and the opportunity for mass exposure is immense. So what you waiting for? Go write that killer app you've been thinking about for ages.
Let use know what you make of the SDK & if you'll be writing for the iPhone.
